Jane Straw

Jane Marie Straw, 56, of Davenport, died Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society in Davenport.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2019 at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport. Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.

Jane Marie Miller was born November 21, 1962 in Davenport, a daughter of Charles and Betty (Seyler) Miller, Sr.  She graduated from West High.  Jane started her chiropractic education in 2003 at Palmer Chiropractic College and continued in Kansas City at the Cleveland Chiropractic College.  Jane also worked at Walgreens for eight years.

Jane was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a former member of the Antioch Family Worship Center in Kansas City.   She was a single mom who enjoyed raising her children.  She was active in her church with the Worship Team, Prayer Group, and Crafter’s Group – she loved quilting.  She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandsons.

Jane was diagnosed August 26, 2016 with glioblastoma and fought a courageous battle, relying on Jesus day by day.  Her favorite quote is from II Timothy 4:7:  “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept my faith.”

Those left to honor Jane’s memory include her children; Jessica Straw, Rock Island, Harry L. Straw, III, Davenport, Amanda Straw-Watson, Kansas City, Kansas; grandchildren, Hunter, Bryson, Jeremiah, Joshua, Jacob and Jerad; father, Charles Miller, Sr., Davenport; siblings, Charlie (Kathy) Miller, Davenport, Joseph Miller, Michael (Tracy) Miller, all of West Virginia; Jeffrey Abbott, Georgia; Jana Miller, Davenport; stepbrothers, Duane (Chrissy) Abbott, Buffalo and Larry Abbott, Davenport; and her cats, Albert and Tobey.

She was preceded in death by her mother, siblings, Emma Abbott and Doug Miller; aunt, Patty Till and uncle, Jimmy “Mickey” Roop.
