Jan Hamdorf

Jan Hamdorf, 77, of Wheatland, died Friday, January 19, 2024 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport surrounded by her family.  

Funeral services to celebrate Jan’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 22, 2024 at Christian Free Lutheran Church, 407 N Main St, Wheatland.  Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Wheatland.  Visitation will be Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at church.  Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Cemetery.  Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.  

Janice J. Fox was born on September 23, 1946 in Iowa City, a daughter of Warren and Bonnie (Emerson) Fox.   She had been married to Lloyd Hamdorf and they shared two children: Kerri and Kelly.

Jan had many titles during her working career including doing childcare and waitressing/bartending locally in the Wheatland area.  She also had a tremendous talent for making and decorating cakes.

Jan cherished her family and enjoyed time being around them.  She had a long list of loved ones and friends she called to sing them Happy Birthday on their special day.  Jan enjoyed visiting Wheatland Manor and visiting the residents there as she had a great love of people. Her other great love was the King of Rock ‘n Roll, Elvis Presley!  She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Kerri and Tom Nykoluk, Davenport; grandchildren: Stasia (Kevin) Remley, Park View, Andrew Nykoluk, Sophia Nykoluk, and Augustine Nykoluk, all of Davenport, and Kailey Hamdorf, Moline; a great-grandson, Carter; a brother Wesley (Nancy) Fox, Lowden, and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces/nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her son, Kelly, her parents and brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Sharon Fox.
