Janice D. Brown was born on March 28, 1954 in Moline, a daughter of Douglas D. and Edith A. (McDougall) Brown. She graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1972. Jan and Denny’s love story began as teenagers at the Dairy Queen, they were married on June 7, 1975 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Davenport. They have shared over 47 years of marriage but more than a lifetime of beautiful memories.
Jan worked at Mark Twain Elementary School in Bettendorf for 25 years retiring in 2014. She wore many hats at Mark Twain including unofficial nurse and counselor to students, teachers, and parents! She was always welcoming with a giant smile and a caring ear to listen. Jan had a therapy dog that she brought to school named Nip. Nip helped launch the Bettendorf School District’s therapy dog program. Jan was a huge dog lover all her life!
Jan adored her family, was their greatest supporter and never missed a game. She was a mother figure to more than just her own children and will be missed by all who knew her. Jan loved being Denny’s partner, Mom and a Grammy more than anything. Creating traditions, celebrating holidays and spoiling her grandchildren was what she did best. Jan’s monthly trips to the casino and the joy her winnings brought her, made us all smile.
Those left to cherish Jan’s memory is her loving husband, Denny, Bettendorf; children: Shaun (Katie) Glancy, Davenport, Abby (Chad Uhde) Brown, Bettendorf, and Emmy (Kyle) West, Bailey, Colorado; grandchildren: Brecken Glancy Brown, Avery Jayne Brown, Olivia Uhde, Kennedy Uhde, and Miles Glancy West; siblings: Doug Brown, Davenport, Sandi (Dave) Schutt, Iowa City, and Dave (Sue) Brown, Lafayette, Colorado; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jean Marie Scott, Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, Tom (Marie) Glancy, Austin, Texas, Bryan (Teresa) Glancy, Gurnee, Illinois, and Marty (Tim) Berchtold, Davenport, and many nieces and nephews.
