Funeral services to celebrate the life of Jackie R. Wells, Sr., 80, of Bettendorf, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. The service will be livestreamed by visiting Jackie’s obituary at www.hmdfuneralhome.com Burial will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family to establish a memorial at a later date.
Jackie died unexpectedly Monday, October 11, 2021 at Trinity, Bettendorf.
Jackie Ray Wells was born September 25, 1941 in New Johnsonville, Tennessee, a son of Samuel L. and Annie (Reagan) Wells. He was united a marriage to Cleora Lucille Bryant on February 13, 1965 at Bethel AMC Church, Davenport. They have shared over 56 years of marriage and memories together.
Jackie retired from Caterpillar after 33 years. He worked in the Mount Joy plant and then moved to Pontiac, Illinois for the last 12 years, retiring in 2000.
Jackie enjoyed the outdoors especially when he was fishing, hunting, or camping. He also enjoyed bowling when he was younger. He cherished the time spent attending his kids’ football and wrestling events and being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife: Cleora L. Wells, Bettendorf, son, Jackie R. (Sara) Wells, Jr., Mitchellville, Iowa; grandchildren: John R. (Brittany) Thorpe, Sierra Wells, Jackie R. Wells III great- grandchildren John R. Thorpe, Jr, Dexter Thorpe, Roman Wells Loggins, sisters-in-law Myrtle Graves and Novella Green, god-daughter, Mikayla Noel Jones, Gainesville, Virginia and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Jacqua L. Thorpe, his parents and seven siblings.
