Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Billy Jack “Jack” Starkey, 88, of Davenport, will be held at 10am on Friday, May 19, 2023, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Davenport.  Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Davenport.  Visitation will be 5-7pm Thursday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.  Memorials may be made to Habitat Restore QC or Living Lands and Waters.

 

Mr. Starkey passed away Friday, May 12, 2023 at Genesis East, Davenport.

 

Jack was born September 19, 1934 in Reeds Spring, MO, the son of Charles and Inez (Perkins) Starkey.  He graduated from Springfield Senior High School in 1952.  He was united in marriage to Charlotte (Panek) Wilson on July 30, 1983 in Davenport.

 

He came to Davenport to work at Brammer Manufacturing. Prior to his retirement in 1993 he had been a banker with First Federal Savings & Loan, Davenport.  After he retired, he became a salesman for Ripley Manufactured Homes.

 

In his younger years he coached Colt League baseball, Local 371. Jack loved being at their cabin and was president of the Lake Odessa Cabin Owners Association for many years. He loved being in his wood shop and could fix anything. Jack was an avid sports fan, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes. He cherished being a dad and grandpa, spending time with family and was friend to all.

 

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Charlotte; son Brent (Margaret) Starkey, Colona, IL, and their children Jordan (Erica) Starkey, Iowa City, Erin (fiancé Josh Dilley) Starkey, San Jose, CA; son Bruce (Elizabeth) Starkey, Dallas, TX, and their children Nicholas (Hanna) Starkey, and Samantha Starkey, Knoxville, TN.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Wilma (Herman) Quick and Clara (Byron) Oakes.
