A Memorial Mass for Herbert R. Brundies, 90, a resident of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Davenport, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1923 N. Fillmore Street, Davenport. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass Saturday at the church. Private family burial will take place in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice. Mr. Brundies died Sunday, January 14, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids following a brief illness.
Herbert Russell Brundies was born on January 25, 1927 in Davenport, a son of William and Caroline (Philbar) Brundies. He proudly served our country in the Army during World War II. Herbert was united in marriage to Madeline Blunk on July 24, 1954 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. She preceded him in death on August 3, 2012 after 58 years of marriage.
Herbert worked in sales for many years, retiring in 1992. He enjoyed tinkering, especially with small motors. He also enjoyed visiting our local parks and hiking, ice skating, and sledding when his children were young.
He is survived by his children: Pat and Bill Dahlsten, Cedar Rapids, Jerry Brundies, Laughlin, Nevada, and T.J. and Sarah Brundies, Eagan, Minnesota; grandchildren, Carly and Joseph Brundies, Eagan, Minnesota, and sisters: Jean Hendley, Davenport, and Mary Priester, California, a sister-in-law, Geraldine Blunk, Altoona, Iowa, and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Elmer, Edna, Cecilia. May they rest in peace.Visits: 7
