Henry Owens

Henry Harrison Owens, 78, of Davenport, Iowa passed away peacefully with family at his side, Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at Genesis East Medical Center. Services will be held at 11:00am, Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, Iowa.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home.   Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport, Iowa and memorials may be made to the family. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with services. Henry H. Owens was born on December 11, 1945 in Davenport, Iowa, son of Powell “Sonny” William Owens and Almira (Collins) Owens.  From their union children Henry, Powell “Sonny”, Larry, Gene, Gregory, Mellodee and Sandra Owens were born. Henry graduated from Central High School and attended Parsons College, Fairfield, Iowa.  He worked for United Postal Service as a driver advancing to Manager for many years.   He later worked for Alcoa as a certified pipefitter from where he retired. He was considered a superstar in all sports.  He played football at a young age and was a star tackle at Central High School. He also played basketball, boxing, softball, enjoyed martial arts, weight lifting, baseball, pool and was a golf champion which he earned many trophies.   Henry had a love for music and attended multiple music festivals.  He especially will be remembered for watching his favorite black and yellow teams; The Steelers, The Hawkeyes and The Pittsburgh Pirates and proudly wearing his team gear. He found joy in dog racing and especially loved a good meal. Henry had love for all of his family and will be deeply missed.  Those left to honor his memory include his children Rhonda Owens, Tonya Owens Perkins, Celeste Owens, Latarsha Owens, Haakim Owens, Haamid Mays, Anthony Mays and Henry Mays; many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren. Siblings, Sonny, Larry, Mellodee and Sandra Owens, Special Aunts include Alberta Crump, Connie Overton and Drucilla Owens Johnson, uncle Ronald D. Owens, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Powell and Almira, brothers Gene and Gregory, maternal grandparents Julius and Allean Bough Collins and paternal grandparents Allie Campbell Owens and Henry Harrison Owens, which is his namesake.
