Gregory A. Appleby, Sr

Gregory Allen Appleby Sr, 45, of Davenport, passed away unexpectedly on January 29, 2025, at his home. Cremation has been accorded by Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. 

Gregory was born June 2, 1979, in Davenport, a son of Robert Lee and Cynthia May (Coblentz) Appleby Sr. He was a graduate of Davenport West High School. 

In earlier years he had worked for Burke Cleaners before becoming disabled. 

Gregory had a deep love for his family, especially his son Gregory Appleby Jr. His generosity and selflessness were unmatched. He was the type of person who would give his shirt off his back or his last dollar. His sense of loyalty and warmth will forever be remembered by those who knew him. 

He had a natural gift for making people laugh with his quick wit and sense of humor. Gregory loved spending time outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing with his family, where he cherished shared memories. Those moments were some of his happiest. 

He also enjoyed playing Texas Hold ‘Em and video games, especially Way of the Hunter. No matter what the activity was, Gregory gave it his all and always found a way to enjoy the experience. 

A diehard 49ers fan, Gregory was never shy about his unwavering loyalty to his team. Whether celebrating a victory or navigating a tough season, he was always ready to discuss the game, offer his thoughts on the latest plays, and share the excitement with those around him. 

Those left to honor his memory include his son Gregory (fiancée Mikayla Bagdonas) Appleby Jr of Eldridge; parents Robert and Cynthia Appleby Sr of Davenport; brother Robert Appleby Jr of Davenport. 

He was preceded in death by his brother Michael Appleby on April 30, 2022. A celebration of Gregory’s life will be held at a later date for family and friends.
