Gertrude “Trudy” Dyer entered into her heavenly reward on August 30, 2023, her 90th birthday.
Gertrude Mary Blackwell was born August 30, 1933, in Louisville, Kentucky, to mother Wilma (Slaughter) Evans. After graduation from high school, Trudy attended Life Bible College in Los Angeles, California where she met the love of her life, William Dyer. Upon their graduation Bill and Trudy married on December 24, 1956 and moved to the Quad Cities where Bill had grown up.
Trudy and Bill quickly became active members of the Moline Gospel Temple where Trudy taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and was a deaconess. They raised their children Michael and Trudy in church, as church was their “family.” They attended picnics, parties, and all the extra activities the large & growing church offered.
A move to Phoenix, Arizona in 1976 brought new adventures. Tommy Barnett who had pastored Westside Assembly of God in Davenport contacted Bill & Trudy to help him build a new church. They quickly became part of the Charter Members of First Assembly of God Phoenix, where Trudy once again was a Sunday School teacher and helped wherever she was needed. Bill passed away in Phoenix on September 15, 1986. Trudy continued to live in Phoenix where she worked as a manager at the local Circle K for 24 years.
In 2004 Trudy moved to Texas to be closer to her daughter Trudy & granddaughter Trudy Marie. She cherished this time of her life where she was able to spend time being a loving mom and grandma. In Texas she attended Westside Baptist Church.
Trudy came full circle back to the Quad Cities in 2014 to be near her daughter Trudy as Alzheimer’s was beginning to steal her memories. During the time that Trudy was living at “home” in St Anthony’s Nursing Home in Rock Island she maintained her prayer life and her love of Jesus. Trudy’s identity in Jesus was never stolen from her.
Trudy is survived by her children, Michael & Leslie Dyer, Henderson, Nevada, Trudy & Russ Brown, Wichita Falls, Tx. Grandchildren; Trudy Marie & Dane Ware, Celina, Texas, Kristin & Reece Argo, Rock Island, Illinois. Great-Grandchildren Wesley & Emmy Ware and Daniel Argo.
A private family celebration of her life will be held. Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
