George Dennis Cummings, 79, of Davenport, IA, passed away peacefully on April 11th, 2024, in Iowa City surrounded by his family. A Celebration of Life will be held on May 13, 2024, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, at the Blackhawk Hotel.
George was born on May 13th, 1944, in Burlington, IA. After George graduated from Central High School in Davenport, IA in 1962, he worked for a while and enlisted into the Air Force.
After the Air Force, he began his electrical apprenticeship and worked at Alcoa for over 30 years where he retired.
George was a proud member of Union IBEW 1379.
Throughout the years, George enjoyed scuba diving, travel, the symphony, theater, and musicals. George was an avid supporter of the Fine Arts scene around the area -- faithfully attending the Quad City Symphony, Circa ‘21 shows, and other outings.
His love of Christmas radiated figuratively and literally through not only cheer, but hand-painting figurines for his Christmas Village with his daughter, putting enough lights on the house to land a plane, and making his own holiday decor.
He loved movies, his favorite shows, and all things technical.
In 2005, George met Pat at a retirement party for a mutual friend from Alcoa, fell in love, and got married in 2012.
George was predeceased by his parents, and his brothers Craig Torres and Hank Torres. He is survived by his wife, Pat Cummings; daughter, Vanessa (Brock); step-children, Silvia Decker (Keith), Miguel Flores, Marco Flores, Jen (Jim) Sambdman; and first wife, Ana Maria Taylor-Cummings. He is loved and missed by his grandchildren Phoenix, Hayden, Harper, Sean, Hannah, Dylan, and Amelia, extended family, and Boris and Natasha - the kitties.
