Funeral services to celebrate the life of Gary L. Holcomb, Sr., 69, of Davenport, will be 2 p.m. Monday, October 18, 2021 at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be held from noon until 2p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Keeping with his wishes, cremation rites will follow services. Gary died peacefully Thursday, October 14, 2021 at his home surrounded by family. Memorials may be made to the family.
Gary Lee Holcomb was born on July 25, 1952 in Davenport, the oldest of seven children born to Clarence and Barbara (Grimm) Holcomb. He was united in marriage to Kim Garrow on July 25, 1974 in Moline, Illinois. They have shared over 47 years of marriage together.
Gary retired from John Deere, Davenport Works in 2010 after 30 years of service. He was a member of UAW Local 281.
Gary loved being outdoors especially when he was camping, fishing, hunting or mowing his grass (even when it didn’t need it). He had an outgoing personality and enjoyed an “occasional” Busch Light. Gary was an avid fan of the Steelers, Cubs, and Hawkeyes.
Survivors include his wife, Kim, daughters: Toni Mayfield and Carrie Holcomb, all of Davenport; grandchildren: Kayla (Steven Lovedy) Holcomb, Michael (Alicia Long) Mayfield, Carl and Robert Brown, Dylan Holcomb, Devin Castel; great-grandchildren: Kylie and Liam Lovedy, Kaysen Mayfield, and Hunter Holcomb; siblings: Donna (Jay) Exline, Iowa City, Fred (Theresa) Holcomb, Davenport, Penny Holcomb, Iowa City, Karen (Harold) Traywick) Davenport, and Julie Holcomb, Davenport.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Holcomb, Jr., son-in-law, Carl Mayfield, his parents, and a sister, Rita Holcomb.
