Gary C. Boyd

Gary C. Boyd, 86, of Bettendorf, died unexpectedly Friday, November 25, 2022 at Genesis East, Davenport following a brief illness.

A memorial service to celebrate Gary’s life will be 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.  Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice honoring Gary’s generosity to many charities he donated to throughout his life.

Gary Craig Boyd was born on September 9, 1936 in Davenport, a son of Rodney and Berniece (Mason) Boyd.  He graduated from Davenport High School in 1954. Gary married Marolyn Hollister and from that union came five children.  He later married Beverly Buerkens.

Gary was an electrician working at ALCOA, the Arsenal, and Bendix.  He continued to do sidework into his 80’s.  Gary was a member of the IBEW Local 145.

Gary enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially for pheasant and duck.  He also enjoyed bowling, playing cards and watching old western movies featuring The Duke, John Wayne.  Gary was a 2-handicap golfer, with six holes-in-one and a seventh that he didn’t count because it wasn’t witnessed! He was affectionately known as “Sparky” by many of his golf buddies.

Survivors include his children: Theresa (Edwin) Willich, Muscatine, Tamara (Michael) Hogue, Raton, New Mexico, Thomas (Julie) Boyd, Arlington, Texas, Tracy (Mike) Hepner, Orion, Illinois, and Todd (Marney) Tope, Davenport; thirteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson; brothers: Grant (Linda) Boyd and Gene (Mary) Boyd, all of Davenport, and many nieces and nephews.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Fletcher Bodnar in 2020 and a sister, Gayle Pahl in 2018.
