Florence L. Condon

A Funeral Mass for Florence L. Condon, 98, of Davenport, will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2022 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Davenport with burial in Davenport Memorial Park.  Visitation will be Friday from 4 until 6 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.  Memorials may be made to the family to establish a memorial at a later date. Mrs. Condon died peacefully Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at Wheatland Manor. 

Florence Starkey was born August 19, 1924 in Estherville, Iowa, a daughter of Edward and Violet (Lingenfelter) Starkey. She graduated from Estherville High School.  Florence married William R. Condon in 1945.  He preceded her in death on October 24, 1978. 

Florence worked at Tri-City Florist until she was 86 years old! 

Florence enjoyed the simple things in life, she loved to go down to the river and sit there and watch as time passed, as well as her daily walks, usually down the bargain aisles at a retail store.  She was country when country wasn’t cool, growing up in Northwest Iowa, and a large portion of her life in Davenport. Florence had a great sense of humor, but wasn’t afraid to tell it like it was. She was a friend of Bill W. for over 30 years and helped many others along their journey. Multiple times she took young people in her home to live when they needed including Billy Ware and Carol Brunning who became part of her family. Florence found great joy in reading and was an excellent cook.

Florence is survived by her children: RoseAnn (Dan) McGinn, Cary, North Carolina, Patricia (Ed) Dempsey, Bettendorf, Michael Condon, Moline, and Chris Condon-Ruxton, Denver, Colorado; daughter-in-law, Marita Condon, Lowden; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, William Condon, stepdaughter, Connie Sears, her parents, and brothers, Dick and Joe Starkey.  May they rest in peace.
