Eugene McCabe

Funeral Services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Eugene T. McCabe, 76, formerly of Davenport, will be Monday, January 8, 2018 at 10:00 am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1923 N. Fillmore Street, Davenport. The family will greet friends Sunday from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport. There will be a prayer service to begin the visitation at 1:00 pm. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. There will be an additional visitation at church Monday from 9:00 am until the time of the service. Gene passed away unexpectedly at his home in Franklin, Tennessee on Monday, January 1, 2018.

Eugene Thomas McCabe was born April 7, 1941 in Davenport, a son of Eugene L. and Elizabeth J. (Mauget) McCabe. He was a 1959 graduate of Assumption High School. He earned a degree in Business from St. Ambrose College in 1963. Gene was a systems analyst for Iowa-Illinois Gas & Electric, retiring after 37 years of service. Gene T. McCabe was united in marriage to Anne M. Bergthold in 1961 in Davenport. He was a member of St. Philips Catholic Church in Franklin, Tennessee and a former member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He was an avid golfer, a member of St. Ambrose Athletic Hall of Fame for tennis and the Eugene McCabe award for excellence is given annually to a deserving member of the Assumption High School men’s varsity tennis team. He also loved to travel. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, and took every opportunity to do so. His kind heart and gentle spirit will be missed by all.

(Hillary) McCabe, Franklin, TN, Elizabeth (Michael) Kostolansky, Summit, New Jersey, Kathleen Douglas, Stamford, CT and Eileen (Keith) Giger, Franklin, TN; 10 grandchildren, Maggie and Andrew McCabe, Timothy, Stephanie and Emily Kostolansky, Eric, Abigail, and Emma Douglas and Alex and Matthew Giger; 1 great grandchild, Maria Catalina Douglas; and sister, Cindy McCabe, Davenport, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Patricia Roosa. May they rest in peace.
