Emma Jean Johnson was born on February 6, 1938 to Ernest and Magnolia Johnson in Meridian Mississippi.

Jean received her education through the Meridian Public School system. Jean accepted the Lord at a very early age and was united with Haven Chapel United Methodist Church. After relocating to Davenport IA in 1962, she united with Progressive Baptist Church where she served as a choir member along with her daughter Natalie, and she was also a Deaconess.

Jean was very active in school and had a passion for singing. God anointed her with a melodious voice which she used in school and church choirs. Her first solo was O Sole Mio at age six. Her husband and children were always serenaded when she was cooking and cleaning.

She was united in holy matrimony to her high school sweetheart William Young, Jr. on October 22, 1958. To this union four girls and one son were born. After 61 years of marriage, William made his transition in March 2020. Now nearly 14 months later she has reunited with William along with her son Joseph, daughter Twyla, grandson Jeffery, mother, father, two sisters, six brothers and her special friend Carrie Mae Young who all preceded her in death.

She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, and friend.

She enjoyed reading the Bible, singing, crossword puzzles, watching game shows, murder mysteries and The Food Network. She especially tried to outwit the weekly Bonaza Bill Puzzle. She shared special moments with her daughters going to church, singing in the Choir, and playing Scrabble.

Emma Jean Young peacefully made her transition on May 25, 2021 surrounded by her daughters, grandson Christopher “CD”, and brother-in-law Reverend John L. Young.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters Natalie Ruth Young, Sandra Lynn Young-Sheppard (Nolan), and Roberta Jacqueline Young all of Davenport, IA; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Young and a brother-in-law, Timothy Jackson, both of San Francisco, CA.  grandchildren; William “Greg”  Young (Anne), LeAnne Binion, Christopher “CD” Young, Suless Young, Patrice Young, and Warren “Doug” Griffin; great grandchildren; Tavia, Janiah, Cameron, Nathan,  Dominic, Cora, and Mabel, and one great-great grandchild, Isiah.
