Ellen Marie (Dunbar) Odean, 87, of Davenport, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. A memorial mass will be offered for Ellen at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 2, 2024 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport. The Mass will be livestreamed by visiting https://www.facebook.com/stpauldisciples/videos Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be held Monday from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. in the gathering space at church.
The Lord saw Ellen was getting tired and called her into His loving arms. The pain was over. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose love for family was endless and devoted.
Ellen was born on May 19, 1937 in Susanville, California, a daughter of Cloyce and Mabel (Telford) Dunbar. She graduated from West Chester, Iowa High School in 1955 and moved to Davenport to attend AIC business school. She married David Joseph Odean on Feb. 2, 1957 and together they celebrated 67 years of marriage. They had two sons...Steven & Daniel.
Ellen was a homemaker, volunteer and a born leader. She was past president of St. Paul Altar & Rosary, the Duck Creek Women’s Golf Club and the Mercy/Genesis Auxiliary of which she was most proud of her 35 years of service. She loved to take road trips, play golf, cards, antiquing, shopping, computer-coloring, Fox News and was an avid reader. Ellen had a large collection of amethyst glassware which were her favorite. In younger years, she bowled and was an excellent seamstress.
Her newest great-grandson, Luka, held a special place in her heart. Ellen had a strong faith and a large cadre of friends of which Char Keppy was her best friend. She especially enjoyed her weekly meetings with the Panera group and the Golf group.
Survivors include her husband, sons, Steven (Mary), Daniel (Brenda); grandsons Jason, Justin & Caleb Odean, granddaughters Allison Stolz & Morgan Odean, great-grandsons Ethan & Luka, great-granddaughters Natalie, Harper & Payton siblings: Rollie (Kathy) Dunbar, Kevin Dunbar, Martha (Tom) Jirsa, Mary (Ron) Redlinger & Debbie Watson; and a brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gerry (Tana) Odean and Sally Kellen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers David, Richard & Fred and an infant brother.
Memorials may be left to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church where Ellen was a member for 61 years.
