Mrs. Roe passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023, at The Kahl Home, Davenport.
Elizabeth Marie Gravert was born on December 27, 1925, in Davenport, the daughter of John Heinrich and Agnes Claire (nee Dally) Gravert. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School and graduated from Davenport High School, Class of 1945. She met Orville Joseph Roe, her future husband, at the Prom Roller Skating Rink, and they were married on June 26, 1948, at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1991.
Betty worked for the Crescent Cookie Factory while in high school and later worked in the office and transfer desk of Petersen Harned Von Maur. She provided childcare in her home for many years and loved those children as her own.
Faith, family, and friends were most important to her. Betty and Orv were very involved in the church and Holy Family School with their friends in the “Dad’s” Club. She enjoyed sewing and baking, and her family loved her homemade tapioca pudding. Betty was the family photographer. She was well-known for the blinding light on her movie camera and had a reputation of waiting until everyone was ready to leave to take family pictures. Betty was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, Altar and Rosary, Saint Anne’s Circle, and Davenport Postal Clerk Auxiliary. She liked playing cards and hosted and organized several card clubs. Betty also enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends and fondly remembered her trip to Rome.
Those left to honor her memory include her children and their spouses: Diana (Daryl) Parchert of Taylor Ridge, IL, Anita Roe McCune of Iowa City, Phillip (Carrie) Roe of Coal Valley, IL, Sheila (Dan) Zack of Bettendorf, and Paul (Diane) Roe of Davenport; grandchildren: Angela (Travis) Kempf, Christopher (Brianne) Parchert, Austin (Brittany) Parchert, Kara (Thomas) Houser, Ryan McCune, Janene (Mike) Martens, Bridget (Marty Jr.) Schlegel, Alyssa (Christian) Allen, Caleb Roe, Hannah Roe, and Catherine Roe; great-grandchildren: Tyler, Leigha, Nathanial, Andrew, Elizabeth, Zackery, Lucienne, Evan, Kaeden, Braxton, Riley, Dylan, Reed, Levi, Cole, Claire, Taylor, Jacob, and another on the way; Connie and Dave Huber of Davenport; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The Roe family extends a special ‘thank you’ to the Carmelite Sisters, caregivers, and staff of The Kahl Home and Jersey Ridge Place for the exceptional care they provided Betty.
Betty was especially blessed by the countless hours Sheila spent with her, and our family is very grateful.
In addition to her husband Orv, she was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Irvin, Daniel, and Leo Gravert; and her son-in-law, LeRoy McCune. May they rest in peace.
