Elizabeth Ann “Liz” Keimig, age 85, of Davenport, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023, at Iowa Masonic Health Facilities. Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Friday, December 1, 2023, at St. John Vianney, Bettendorf. The family will greet friends from 4:00 – 6:00pm Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home with a rosary prior to the visitation. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service in the gathering space at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport.
Elizabeth was born on February 14, 1938, in Davenport, to Maurice and Clara (Mackin) Shanley. She married Justinian “Jack” Keimig on June 12, 1971, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on August 2, 2014.
Elizabeth attended the former Immaculate Conception Academy for high school and received her BA from San Diego College for Women. Elizabeth taught school for 25 years, including 18 years at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic School where she also attended as a child.
Elizabeth had a deep love for reading and was passionate about discussing books and literature. She also enjoyed knitting, cross-stitch, writing letters, and journaling. She loved her dear friendships, meeting new people, and the hugs she received from former students. She was an avid volunteer over the years including service for St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Genesis Hospital Befrienders, Women’s Choice Center, Genesis Community Hospice, and was an Associate member of the Sisters of Charity BVM, Dubuque.
Survivors include her children, Michael (Barbara) Keimig, Jenny (Bill) McNulty, Scott (Deb) Keimig, Greg (Renee) Keimig, Shayla (John) Kimpton, Jill Vest, Dana (Cindy) Keimig, Chris (Jen) Keimig, Kevin (Julie) Keimig; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild; her brothers, Merle (Joyce) Shanley and Greg Shanley; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Maureen Wright and her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Women’s Choice Center or Sisters of Charity BVM, Dubuque. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff members of the Iowa Masonic for their kindness and loving care of Elizabeth.
