Mrs. McKeon died Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
Elaine was a loving wife, mother of two daughters and two sons, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She was born July 28, 1935 to Peter and Loretta (Higgins) Neurohr in Ottawa, Illinois. She married John F. “Jack” McKeon on February 15, 1958 in Ottawa, Illinois. Jack and Elaine were happily married for 60 years. Elaine graduated from St. Francis grade school and Marquette Academy both in Ottawa, Illinois. She graduated from the former Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse at hospitals in Davenport, Ottawa and Frederick, Maryland. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the former St. Ambrose College. Elaine was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Church where she was a song leader and organist for many years and also a CCD teacher. Elaine was a big supporter of her children in school, scouting and sports. She remembered anniversaries and birthdays of all her family members with a card and a check.
Elaine enjoyed playing cards and board games with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed playing bingo with her friends on Tuesdays and her friends at CASI where she played bingo on Friday. Elaine enjoyed fishing and was a die-hard Cub fan. Elaine was an accomplished seamstress; her family looked forward to a box of her hand sewn “scrubbies” at Christmas time. Elaine was a genuinely nice person who always saw the good in everyone. Elaine was friendly to everyone she met. She truly loved people and welcomed them openly into her life.
Although she moved away from her home town of Ottawa, IL, her extended family always remained an important part of her life. She dearly loved her aunts and uncles.
If you wish, memorials may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Church and to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
