A. Eileen Matson, 91, of Davenport, died peacefully Sunday, February 16, 2025 at the Kahl Home, Davenport surrounded by family.
Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, February 28, 2025 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be held Thursday February 27, 2025 from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport with a prayer service offered at 6:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, All Saints Catholic School or the Jack and Eileen Matson Scholarship at Assumption High School.
Alice Eileen Glancy was born on April 29, 1933 in Davenport, a daughter of Thomas and Irene (Powers) Glancy. Eileen was united in marriage to Russell Thies on May 28, 1955 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Davenport. He preceded her in death on December 6, 1966. She later was united in marriage to Jack Matson on February 19, 1977 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. He preceded her in death on January 28, 2018 following forty years of marriage.
She graduated from St. Ambrose College Division of Nursing in 1954 and worked at Resurrection Hospital in Chicago in the nursery and as a surgical nurse. Eileen went back to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Marycrest College Department of Nursing in 1971. She later worked for many years as an audiometrist for the Area Education Agency.
Eileen enjoyed her large family, and caring for her grandchildren and attending their many different activities. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially 500.
She was a longtime member of Holy Family Parish.
Those left to honor her memory are her children: Patrick (Mindy) Thies, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Debbie (Tom) Weiman, Hampshire, Illinois; Mike (Trish) Matson, Davenport, Iowa; Mark (Betsy) Thies, Spokane, Washington; Michele (Bob) Kelly, Putnam Valley, New York; Maureen (John) Vieth, Marion, Iowa; nineteen grandchildren: sixteen great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Judy Glancy, Moline, Illinois and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Thomas, Raymond, and Patrick Glancy and a sister, Margaret Gimbel. May they rest in peace.
