Edward Baker

Edward Baker, age 93, of Bettendorf, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at Bickford Cottage, Davenport. Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, July 31, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bettendorf. Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:00-1:00 pm at the church. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church or Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

   Edward was born on February 17, 1930 in Escanaba, MI, to Roger and Eva (Moras) Baker. He was united in marriage to Frances Chuha on November 14, 1953 in Philadelphia, PA. She preceded him in death on February 28, 2022. He was a veteran having served in Korea with the U.S. Army. Edward was a metallurgical engineer retiring from Caterpillar Inc, in 1988 after 37 years of service. After retirement, Edward worked for R&O Specialties for several years. He also volunteered as a driver for the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and served on several committees including parish council, adult choir, and CEW.

   Edward was a beloved father and grandfather. He loved to fish for walleye at Red Wing Lodge in Minnesota. He was also an avid Cubs and Green Bay Packer fan.

   Those left to honor his memory are his children, John (Linda) Baker of Bettendorf, Kevin (Rosemary) Baker of Andalusia, IL, Marilyn (Rhett) Bicknell of Bettendorf, Steven (Cathy) Baker of Elgin, IL, Kathy (Kenneth) Stewart of Lititz, PA, David (Katie) Baker of Jesup, IA, Nancie (Kyle) Benjamin of Walker, MN, James (Sherry) Baker of Houston, TX, and Annette (Thom) Seibert of Tega Cay, SC; 31 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

   In addition to his parents and wife, Edward was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert; grandson, Carrington; sisters, Joyce, Jean, Shirley, and Mary; and a brother, Gerald.
