Earl Stroops

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Earl J. Stroops, 84, a resident of Davenport will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 10, 2017 at Christ United Methodist Church, 2330 W. 41st Street, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at church. Mr. Stroops passed away Monday, November 6, 2017 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf surrounded by his family.

Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Earl J. Stroops was born July 14, 1933 in Summon, Illinois the son of Earl and Rachel (Stambaugh) Stroops. He proudly served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Earl was united in marriage to Evelyn J. Taylor on July 1, 1955 at St. John’s United Methodist Church, Davenport. He retired from Ralston Purina in 1993 following 38 years of service and enjoyed bowling in the Ralston bowling league.

He also enjoyed golfing and working out daily at the YMCA. Earl was an avid fan of the Chicago White Sox.

Earl faithfully attended Christ United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church for their music department or Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Evelyn; a daughter Julie (Sam) Hungate; a son Bradley (Wendy) Stroops, all of Davenport; grandchildren, Megan (Chris) Wiebler, Nick Hungate Nathan (Jen) Hungate, Beth (Jai) Dayal , Katie (Anil) Gorania; six great grandchildren; a sister Doris Martin, Edmond, OK, a nephew, Rob Martin, Oklahoma, and a brother-in-law, and 2 sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and a brother-in-law, Marvin Martin.
