Durae Harvey

Durae Lynn Harvey was born in the evening of April 10, 1963, to a welcoming chorus of robins.  She died peacefully on January 4, 2022, surrounded by loving friends and caretakers.  Durae was 58, a remarkably advanced age for someone with Down Syndrome, which speaks well of all those who helped raise her.

Durae lived her early years in the loving care of Marilyn and Burton Osborne with their children Teresa and Clark until she finished school and was ready to move on to a more independent life.  She joined Handicapped Development Center and became a resident and an active member in their program.  Durae worked hard to overcome her disabilities and was proud of her achievements.  Durae loved to sing and dance, shop and go out to eat.  Durae will be especially remembered for her sassy and sometimes irreverent repartee which was likely to be forthcoming on any given occasion.  For example, when her sister Kim came to visit on one of her usual summer visits Durae, upon seeing her would say “It must be summer cause Kim Harvey is here.”.

Durae is survived by her mother Phyllis C. Harvey, her brother Stephen Clark Harvey, her sister Kimberly Harvey Gallik and Michael Gallick and their children Keegan, Kyle, and Caitlin Gallik.  She was preceded in death by her father Philip S. Harvey.

A private service and burial will take place in Pennsylvania.  Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.
