Dr. Hofmann passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
William Burnett Hofmann was born, April 9, 1928 in Davenport, Iowa a son of, Dr. William P. and Marie Pauline (Burnett) Hofmann. He graduated from the former St. Ambrose Academy. He then graduated from Medical School at the University of Mexico, 1959, serving his internship at Cook County Hospital, Chicago, Illinois and his Ophthalmology Residency at Hines VA Hospital, Maywood, Illinois.
Bill married Eda Priester on February 4, 1954 at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport. They have shared over 64 years of a very happy marriage.
He was proud to have served our country in the US Army during the Korean War. He served in a MASH unit in Korea and also completed Hemorrhagic Fever research.
Gordo loved his Wednesday afternoon golf game at the Davenport Country Club with his foursome dubbed the “Kangaroo Kripples” by much younger golfers at the club. He and the “Kripples” joyfully made their way around 18 holes every Wednesday for over 50 years.
Other than the golf course Gordo loved spending time in the north woods. Many wonderful memories were made in the Boundary Water Canoe Area canoeing and camping with his family and friends.
Far and away his favorite place to be was at the head of his dining room table presiding over his noisy, rambunctious family and their friends. He and Eda took pride in always making room at the dining room table for one more person. He would want his friends and family to celebrate his full life by drinking a cold beer and toasting him.
Memorials may be made to Camp Shalom, 960 E. 53rd Street, Ste. 1B, Davenport, IA 52807 or Friends of Boundary Waters, 401 N. 3rd Street, Ste. 290, Minneapolis, MN 55401

(Pamela) Hofmann, Aberdeen, Washington, Kate (Dave) Caswell, Nashville, Tennessee, Eda (William) Clemons, Pensacola, Florida, Mary Pat (Joe) Gunderson, Des Moines, Iowa, and Bernard (Milissa) Hofmann, Pleasant Valley, Iowa; 9 grandchildren.

The family would like to give special thanks to the many caregivers who spent time with him during the last six months; particularly the wonderful hospice nurses.
Our most heartfelt thanks go to a woman named Dalisay “Dali” Bagnes who Gordo nicknamed, “Trouble”. Dali started as Gordo’s caregiver two years ago and is no longer considered his caregiver but a beloved member of the family.
