Doris Mae Wiebler, 96, life-long resident of Davenport, passed away Friday, August 9, 2024, at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Doris was born September 30th, 1927, in Davenport, to George Valentine and Lillian Mae (Brown) Volrath. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1945 and worked in the office at The Independent Baking Company. She married Richard B. Wiebler on June 7th, 1947.
In June of 1948 she became a stay-at-home Mom until the marriage of her youngest of eight children, at which time she went to work part-time for Folwell’s Gifts and then the Added Touch.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, Knights of Columbus, and Davenport Elks #298.
One of her proudest accomplishments was being the oldest person (92) to complete the Bix 7, which she had previously completed 42 times. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, visiting the casino and playing bingo. Doris was an avid Cub and Hawkeye fan.
Doris is survived by children: Rich (Peggy), Gary (Marcia), Mary Ann (Dan) Ewen, Cyndee (Stan) Boudreau, Katie Hines, Elizabeth (Marc) Nover and daughter-in-law Shannon Wiebler. Doris had 22 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren.
Doris was predeceased by her husband, sons Tom and Matt, granddaughter Stephanie Gorsh, son-in-law Rick Hines, daughter-in-law Janet Wiebler, her parents and siblings Marcella Scheel, George Volrath, Betty Mangels, Marilyn Freund, and Mike Volrath.
Memorials can be made in her honor to Steph’s Tribe (www.stephstribe.com), a charity organized in memory of Doris Wiebler’s late granddaughter, Stephanie Gorsh supporting individuals and families impacted by cancer within the Quad Cities.
Visitation will be 2-4 pm Sunday, August 11, 2024, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will follow at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal.
