Dennis Townsend, Sr.

Memorial services to celebrate the life of Dennis D. Townsend, Sr., 66, of Dallas, Texas, formerly of Davenport, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2136 Brady, Davenport.  Visitation will be Thursday 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main, Davenport.  There will be additional visitation Friday morning at church from 9:30 a.m. until the service time.  Honoring his wishes the rite of cremation has been accorded and Military graveside services will take place at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island.  Memorials may be made to Kings Harvest Animal Shelter.

Dennis died Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the VA Medical Center, Iowa City.

Dennis David Townsend was born on January 26, 1953, in Dallas, Texas to William C. and Alice (Standridge) Townsend.  He proudly served in the U.S. Army. He had been married to the love of his life, Julie Barrett.

He had a lifelong love of music, God and his country. He was deeply devoted to his children and grandchildren and took every chance to make them laugh and tell them he loved them. Words cannot do justice to his sparkling personality. Those who were lucky enough to know him will be forever changed by his joy of life and unconditional love.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Dennis D. “David” (Daniella) Townsend, Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio, Elizabeth “Wicked Liz” (Bradley) Treiber, Bettendorf, Michael Townsend, Houston, Texas, and Jennifer Blood, Moline, IL; his beloved five grandchildren, Elaina, Tatum, Estelle, Fiona and Jonathan; his ex-wife and best friend Julie Blood, Moline, IL; his siblings; William C. (Debbie) Townsend, II., Houston, Texas and Mary Ann (Gary) Fancher, Edgewood, Texas; and many loving nieces, nephews.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents.
