Deloras M. Kraklio was born on July 15, 1926 on the family farm in rural Scott County, one of twelve children born to Earl and Amanda (Klindt) Kraklio. She was united in marriage to Norman Ruplinger on August 2, 1947 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport. In 1997, the couple renewed their marriage vows with their children and their families and friends at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, a sacred, memorable occasion. Norman preceded her in death on May 10, 1999.
Deloras graduated from Wilton Community School and earned a teaching degree from the former Iowa State Teacher’s College, Cedar Falls, Iowa. She also studied at Marycrest College and St. Ambrose College. Deloras taught in the Muscatine, Blue Grass, and Davenport Community School Districts. She retired in 1988 from the Math Department at Bettendorf Middle School. In her retirement, she enjoyed the time she was able to spend with her family and friends which she dearly loved.
During her lifetime, Deloras kept a daily journal as a record of her family’s history, documenting her children and grandchildren’s greatest achievements from toddlers to adulthood. Their remembrances include spending two weeks yearly from infants to adults camping and fishing in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin and Canada watching bears search for food at the dump! Deloras and Norman enjoyed traveling, especially riding the railroad across Canada and a seven-day cruise aboard the “Majesty of the Seas”, a trip given to them by their children on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary.
Those left to cherish Deloras’ memory are her children: Dale (Linda) Ruplinger, Bettendorf, Steve (Nam) Ruplinger, Jacksonville, Florida, Dan (Cindy) Ruplinger, Coal Valley, and Jerry (Gigi) Ruplinger, Bettendorf; many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings: Gary (Kaye) Kraklio and Sharon Grunder; sisters-in-law, Sandy and Joan Kraklio, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughters, Carol DiLello and Mary Hunt, son-in-law, Willie Hunt, siblings: Eleanor Arp Moeller (Edwin and Harold), Ruth (Melvin)Paustian, Marion (Willis) Kappeler, Phyllis (William) Kappeler, Patricia Kraklio, Jacqueline (Ralph) Telsrow, Earl Kraklio, Kenneth (Jean) Kraklio, and Darius Kraklio, and a brother-in-law, Jim Grunder. May they rest in peace.
