David William Dorris was born May 25, 1942 in Davenport, a son of Clarence and Hazel (Farrington) Dorris.  He was united in marriage to Sally Lou Scherz on September 1, 1962 at Grace United Methodist Church.  She preceded him in death December 21, 2022 following 60 years of marriage.

David worked for Ralston Purina (Nestle) for 35 years, retiring in 2002.  He had a tremendous work ethic and was a great provider for his family.

David was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church as well as the Midwest Writing Center in Rock Island.  He loved to write and has authored seven books which he enjoyed selling at bookstores.

In his younger years, David coached girls’ softball through Dad’s Club and enjoyed communicating on his CB radio.  He also enjoyed model trains, classic cars, music, western movies, and telling “Dad jokes.” David loved his four grandchildren very much and, like his wife, was very interested in the events of their lives.  He enjoyed talking with them and giving them life advice.

Survivors include his children: Doug (Lisa) Dorris, Muscatine, Wendy (Todd) Bartels, Davenport; grandchildren: Brandon (Sraddha) Dorris, Rachel (Keegan Ginster) Dorris, Zachary and Colton Bartels, a brother, Ronald (Patricia) Dorris, Edmund, Oklahoma, and a brother-in-law, Robert Whitney.

In addition to his wife, Sally, David was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Charlene Whitney.
