Memorial services for David A. Cooper, 80, of Davenport, Iowa, will be held at Halligan McCabe Funeral Home, Monday, July 1, 2024 at 10:30 am. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Cooper died Monday, June 24, 2024 at home. He dealt with Agent Orange issues for many years.
Honoring his wish, cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment will be at the Rock Island Arsenal national Cemetery.
Dave was born July 10,1943, in Evanston, Ill, the son of Helen Lovett Cooper and Robert McBride Cooper, Sr. He was a graduate of Davenport Central High School. He also graduated from both Palmer Junior College and Scott Community College.
In semi-retirement he had worked in various part-time jobs. He owned and operated Cooper’s Crimmy Tap at Five-Points in Davenport, IA from 1986 until 1997. He had previously worked at Sivyer Steel Casting Co in Bettendorf, IA for 25 years.
In 1990 he married Rhonda R. Graham in Davenport, IA.
Dave served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970, with service, in country, in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970. He was assigned to Headquarters, USARV, G4 Plans and Operations. Upon his honorable discharge, he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, and the Army Commendation Medal.
His memberships include: VFW – an inactive life member, VVA – a inactive life member and the NRA. Dave was a former member of the Northwest Davenport Business Association, the American Foundrymen’s Society and the Cornbelt Running Club.
Survivors include his wife, Rhonda; stepdaughter, Shelley Cromer; stepson, Gordon Graham; seven grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
His brother, Robert M. Cooper, Jr., resides in Arlington, VA.
