Daniel Leonard Wemhoff, 76, of Casa Grande, Arizona, passed Wednesday, January 15, 2025, with his loving wife at his side. Visitation will be held at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home on Sunday, January 26, from 2-5 pm. A rosary will be said for Daniel from 4:30 pm to 5:00 pm as part of the visitation.
A funeral mass will be celebrated for Daniel on Monday, January 27, at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Davenport, Iowa. It will be live streamed for those unable to attend in person. A private burial will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery on Tuesday, January 28. Memorials may be made to the family.
Daniel Wemhoff was born on December 2, 1948, in Columbus, Nebraska to Ludwig and Viola (Fuchs) Wemhoff. The oldest of thirteen siblings, Daniel liked farming, camping and woodworking. Early in life, he earned a two-year associate’s degree as a machinist. Daniel married Mary Beth Ekstrom on August 7, 1971, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Elgin, Illinois. They were blessed with five sons. Daniel and Mary Beth enjoyed 53 years of marriage together.
Daniel proudly served in the Army from August 1968 to June 1970. He made every moment count in the time he served and was recognized for his service by receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, 2 Overseas Bars, Good Conduct Medal, M-14 Sharpshooter Badge, M-60 Sharpshooter Badge, and M-16 Marksmanship Badge.
Daniel was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Casa Grande, AZ. Earlier in his life, Daniel was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1123 Pope Pius XII in Hastings, NE, and also served on the Hastings Catholic Schools Board of Education and Activities Committee.
Those left to honor Daniel’s memory are his loving wife, Mary Beth Wemhoff of Casa Grande, AZ; his children, Christopher (Jennifer) Wemhoff of Davenport, IA, Phillip Wemhoff of Kearney, MO, Jeremy (Natalie) Wemhoff of Pingree Grove, IL, Michael (Anne) Wemhoff of Gering, Nebraska, and Matthew (Cary) Wemhoff of Lincoln, NE; his 12 grandchildren; his siblings, Elmer (Jane) Wemhoff of Lincoln, NE, Erv (Cheryl) Wemhoff of Lincoln, NE, Harry (Joan) Wemhoff of Humphrey, NE, Ted (Angie) Wemhoff of Columbus, NE, Cecilia (Dennis) Anderson of Humphrey NE, Joan (Larry) Korth of Creston, NE, Randy (Joan) Wemhoff of David City, NE, Dale (Kelly) Wemhoff of Humphrey, NE, Sandy Ekstrom of Poplar Grove, IL, and Keith (Katie) Wemhoff of Wichita, KS.
Daniel was joyfully welcomed home by his parents Ludwig and Viola, daughter in law Angela Wemhoff, brother Kenneth Wemhoff, and brother Kevin Wemhoff.
