Christopher James Contreras joined his previously departed loved ones in Heaven on Saturday, September 11, 2021. Chris fought for many years against debilitating illnesses of the heart, kidneys, hearing loss, and diabetes. Chris fought the good fight and kept the faith, but God determined that it was time for him to come home.
Christopher was born in Alamogordo, New Mexico in 1965 to Jimmy and Celia (Torrez) Contreras.
Because part of Chris’s brain was damaged at birth, he struggled with learning disabilities his whole life. He didn’t let this slow him down. He persevered through his academics and graduated from Andress High School in El Paso, Texas with great memories. Chris held more jobs than most people have in their lifetime, in various U. S. States, and Germany. He worked at a picture frame manufacturing company; at a brass finishing company; at a janitorial company; as a dishwasher; as a trash collector; as a meat cutting equipment sanitizer; as a groundskeeper; in hotel maintenance; and as a federal employee at the Rock Island Arsenal. Chris was always a loyal and hard worker.
Chris always had an air of innocence. He was very easy going and always smiling. He was always very courteous to everyone. Chris was always very generous to his family and friends. He was the first one to always appear with Christmas gifts. He never forgot family or friends’ anniversaries or birthdays. Chris has left a great vacuum in our hearts that will never be filled.
Those Chris left behind to honor his life are his parents; son Nicholas; sister Shawn Contreras - Novak; brothers Mark (Ann Marie) Contreras and Jimmy (Robbie) Contreras; nephews Jared Novak, Marcus Contreras, and Sam Waidzulis; nieces Annisa Contreras and Taylor Novak; and many wonderful Aunts, Uncles, and cousins who loved him dearly; and lastly, his companion Jack (his cat).
A Mass to celebrate his life will be held at 10am on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 417 Main St, Davenport. The celebration will continue with an open house at 3433 W. Columbia Ave, Davenport.
