Christine Elizabeth Schmid
December 18, 1952 - December 30, 2020
Chris was a graduate of Assumption High School in Davenport, IA class of 1971 and attended St. Regis College in Colorado Springs, CO. Chris spent many years living in Davenport plus in and around Minneapolis, MN. Finally residing in Scottsdale, AZ where she died at age 68 from complications of COPD.
Chris worked as a phone operator, in food service, retail and as an interior decorator, which was a particular passion for her. Her Halloween decorations were truly something to behold, as she had a ghoul or a goblin in every corner of her house and yard. Christmas was right up there too.
Chris struggled with both drugs and alcohol in her life but overcame them and had been sober for the last 20 years. This is no small accomplishment; in fact, it is a Herculean task and one she and her family were incredibly proud of her for reaching.
She loved all kinds of animals but especially dogs and gorillas. It was a dream of hers to travel to the Congo to see gorillas in the wild. Perhaps she’s with them there now.
Chris lit up the room with her smile and was one of the most generous people you could ever meet putting a smile on the face of everyone she met. Even recently her nurse told us they were laughing together, a rarity for an ICU patient. So, in her honor we ask that you do the same for someone you meet today.
Chris is preceded in death by her parents John and Bette Schmid and her brother Bob. She is survived by her beloved dog-kids Walter, June Bug and Ruby, her sister Kathy Munson and her husband Chuck of Phoenix, AZ, niece Dana Busick and her husband David and grand-niece Chloe of San Diego, CA, brother Jack Schmid and sister-in-law Mantea of Dubuque, IA, along with her nephews John and Alex Schmid, and sister Nan Schmid and husband Steve Johnson of New York, NY. Last, but never least, she is survived by her huge family of aunts, cousins and second cousins totaling well over 100 Schmids! Chris will be greatly missed by all.
A celebration of her life will take place at 10am on Friday, January 22, 2021 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport, and will be live-streamed. The live-stream may be viewed by visiting https://www.shcdavenport.org/ or https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCe9D_Uj3QJxdLCdqdPb0pVg and online remembrances left at www.hmdfuneralhome.com.
