Charles K. Vollmer, Sr, 89, of Davenport, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2020 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Services will be private and burial will be in Mt Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa or Hercules' Haven
Charles Kenneth Vollmer was born June 19, 1931 in Davenport, the son of Charles and Loretta (Russell) Vollmer. He was united in marriage to Mary Lee Bodenhamer on October 30, 1954 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Davenport. She preceded him in death on May 17, 2000.
Prior to his retirement Chuck, had worked for the Davenport Police Department from 1957-65 and then worked briefly for the Jim Beam Distillery. In 1973 he became a Deputy with the Scott County Sheriffs Office and retired as Chief Deputy in 1996.
Chuck was a devoted family man and especially enjoyed the time spent with his grandson Brad. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping and following the Chicago Bears and Cubs.
He was a proud Korean War veteran and had served in the Air Force, flying F-80s and F-86s.
Surviving are his daughter Julie Vollmer and grandson Brad Countryman, both of Davenport.
In addition to his beloved wife Mary, sisters Joyce Konkler and Mona Vollmer, and special friend Molly Harksen, preceded him in death. May they rest in peace
