Charles “Chuck” Dooley, age 84, of Davenport, passed away October 1, 2022 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus. Memorial services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at the First Baptist Church, 1401 N. Perry Street, Davenport. The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Chuck was born on December 4, 1937 in Jerome, IA, to Orville and Mary Ann (Nichols) Dooley. Charles' childhood was difficult and family circumstances presented many challenges. However, it was those experiences that helped mold his value for family and God’s gifts.
As a teenager to earn extra money, Charles set up pins at the local bowling alley. After graduation from high school he attended typesetting school in Milwaukee, WI and started his career for several years at the Rock Island Argus. His career later took him to Oscar Mayer, before finishing at American Water Company retiring in 2000.
Some of Charles' favorite activities included, fishing, bicycling, horse racing, and a lot of euchre. Charles also loved dogs and never met a dog he did not like. He lived a Christian life and never took life for granted.
On November 4, 1959 he married the love of his life, Kay Frances Walker. Together they raised 3 children, Michael (Jenny) Dooley of Lynchburg, VA, Tonia (Timothy) Coulter of St. Anne, IL, and Lisa (John) Bear of St. Louis, MO; 9 grandchildren, James Dooley, Matthew Dooley, Sarah Dooley, Dusty Beert, Holly Coulter, Tessa Coulter, Emily (Kyle) Reed, Rachel Bear, and Marie Bear. Charles also had the opportunity to meet and spend time with his first great-granddaughter, Landyn Reed.
