Carol L. Ney

Carol Ney, 87, of Davenport, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024, at Edencrest at Green Meadows in Johnston, Iowa. Carol was a lovely, humble bearer of unbounded goodness, whose life touched many.

Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Monday, December 23, 2024, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation will be 3-5 pm on Sunday, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.

Carol LaMae Guffey was born May 21, 1937, in Unionville, Missouri to Clayton and Maggie (Cooley) Guffey. At the age of 10, Carol and the family relocated to Davenport. She was married at Sacred Heart Cathedral to Ronald Ney on May 4, 1957, forming a bond that lasted until Ron's passing in December 2019. 

Carol was devoted to her Catholic faith and serving Holy Family Parish through volunteer roles and was the Church Secretary from 1995 - 2010. Many got to know her best as she led or supported the Holy Family Bazaar each November as part of St. Teresa's Circle, which she cherished. Carol was a talented artist and developed her own style of acrylic painting that adorned hand-crafted Christmas ornaments that were a popular item at the annual sale for many years.

Carol was preceded in death by husband Ronald, parents Clayton and Maggie, and brother Dennis. She is survived son Richard (Christine) Ney of Coralville and daughter Kathleen (Stephen) Osborn of Johnston, Iowa; by three grandchildren: Meghann Ney (Max Mahaffey) of Seattle, Catherine Ney (Andrew Lownes) of Chicago, and son Michel (Matisse) Christensen-Ney; great-grandchildren Racer and Beckett Christensen-Ney of Iowa City; and brother Gordon (Karen) Guffey of Eldridge, sister Debbie of California, and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who are left to cherish her memory. 

 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Family Church, or Care Initiatives Hospice.
