Funeral services celebrating the life of Blanche Clay, 99, of Davenport, will be held at 11am on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Gospel Mission Temple, 5074 N. Pine St, Davenport. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 – 11am. Memorials may be made to the family or Mt. Sinai Fellowship Church.
Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, is assisting the family.
Mrs. Clay passed away Sunday, February 19, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family.
Blanche Irene Claypool was born August 17, 1923, in Grand Chain, IL, a daughter of John “Jack” and Audrey (Henderson) Claypool. She was united in marriage to Mark Clay Jr on June 17, 1941, in Sikeston, MO. He preceded her in death on February 1, 1990. Of this union they had sixteen children.
Blanche loved God and read her Bible daily. She was a homemaker and loved babies, solving crossword and word search puzzles, watching Jeopardy, playing Uno, listening to gospel music, and was famous for her cooking.
Those left to honor her memory include her children Thomas Clay, Kansas City, MO; Craig (Carol) Clay; Eric (Shaune) Johnson; Sandra (Roger) Smith, Janet Harris; Kathleen (Roy) Horton; Audrey Clay, Lorri Clay, all of Davenport; JoAnn (Marvin) Tatum, Milwaukee, WI; Steven (Sheryl) Clay, East Moline, IL; Ercie Gooding; Christine Clay, Rock Island; Marsha (Tim) Morgan, and Sharon (Charles) Bland, Austin, TX; 39 grandchildren; 78 great grandchildren; 23 great great grandchildren; one great great great grandchild; a brother and two sisters.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, son Mark Clay III; daughter Beverly Steward, and grandson Angelo Pate, three brothers and two sisters.
