Betty J. Spiess

Betty J. Spiess, 94, of Davenport, died Sunday, February 18, 2024 at the Kahl Home, Davenport.   Private services with burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport will be held.  Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church.

Betty June Groves was born on January 5, 1930 in Princeton, Iowa, a daughter of Everett and Mabel (Pietscher) Groves.  She was united in marriage to William C. “Bill” Spiess on July 19, 1952 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Davenport.  He preceded her in death on February 4, 2022 after 69 years of marriage together.

Betty worked for 35 years as a payroll clerk for Case Company in Bettendorf.  She retired in October of 1984.  Following retirement, Bill and Betty spent 38 winters in the Ft. Myers area of Florida.

Betty was a talented baker, known for her pies and cookies and knitted many sweaters for family and friends.  She was a longtime member of Holy Family Parish.

Betty is survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Harry Groves, Dorothy Andresen, and Richard Groves. May they rest in peace.
