Bertha Carter

Bertha L. Carter, 87, a resident of Davenport, died Friday, August 13, 2021 at Genesis Medical Center, East Rusholme in Davenport.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Humane Society of Scott County.

Bertha was born June 17, 1934 in Grand Meadow, Minnesota, the daughter of Clifford and Sylvia (Petersen) DeRaad. She married Marion “Mike” Carter, April 2, 1977. He preceded her in death February 7, 2014.

Bertha worked as an LPN for the former St. Luke’s Hospital and Davenport Lutheran Home. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed sewing, and loved her dog, Goldie. Berth loved the Lord and was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Davenport.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Rhonda (David) Cooper, Russell (Bobbi) Richardson, and Rick (Kristie) Richardson, all of Davenport; step-children, Shelly Andresen of Darlington, South Carolina and Dawn (Dennis) Mattelski of Hartsville, South Carolina; 19 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren; siblings, Eileen Edge of Stewartville, Minnesota, Vernon (Kathryn) DeRaad of Austin, Minnesota, and Merien (Eldora) DeRaad of Colfax, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Charlotte DeRaad of Prescott Valley, Arizona.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Larry DeRaad; and step-son, Gary Carter.
