Barbara Thiessen

July 6, 1917 — February 14, 2018

Barbara M. Thiessen, 100, of Davenport passed away at the Kahl Home Wednesday, February 14, 2018. Visitation will be Monday, February 19 from 10 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 at the Kahl Home, 6701 Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. All attending are invited to wear red, her favorite color. Burial will immediately follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Kahl Home.

Barbara Marie Cerjan was born July 6, 1917 in Fairfield, Iowa, to Matthew and Anna (Rodenich) Cerjan. She was a 1935 graduate of Davenport High School. Barbara married Lester (Pete) Thiessen on December 15, 1939 in Davenport. She worked at the Oscar Mayer Credit Union.

She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and Holy Family Catholic Church, where she served as President of Altar and Rosary and the school’s PTA. Barbara enjoyed playing cards, reading and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to honor Barbara’s memory include her son, William (Marilee) Thiessen, Davenport; her daughter-in-law, Jo Thiessen Riddle, Iowa City; grandchildren: Brian (Kristen), Davenport; Brent (Erin), Eldridge; and Bradley (Eva), Bradenton, FL.; 6 great-grandchildren and sister, Anna Meyers of La Crosse, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lester (Pete) in 1976, son, Dennis in 2001, and siblings, Anthony Cerjan, Rose Polito and Helen Worsley.
