Barbara J. Smith

Barbara J. Smith, 85, a resident of Davenport, died Sunday, October 9, 2022 at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport.

A Celebration of Life for Walter and Barbara Smith will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday, October 17, 2022 at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial to be decided.

Barb was born September 21, 1937 in Anamosa, Iowa, the daughter of Rex and Lena (Schoon) Reuter. She married her high school sweetheart, Walter F. Smith, September 28, 1958.

Barb worked in customer service at Sears then retired after several years as a cashier and switchboard operator from Mel Foster Company. She enjoyed shopping, crossword puzzles, reading, and her weekly luncheons with long-time friends, Gene and Deanna Oppenheimer.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Walter; sons, Tim (Debbie) Smith of Walcott and Brad (Cheryl) Smith of Davenport; grandchildren, Megan (Gabe) Brown, Alex (Ashleigh) Smith, Natalie and Nick Smith; siblings, Colin (Mary) Reuter of Denver, Colorado and Andy (Carol) Parcel of Carrollton, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and step-father, David Parcel.
