How do you sum up 97 years of Anne Ramirez, an incredible woman who shared so much joy and love with this world in a brief obituary? In one word, impossible. She left this world on February 15, 2024 leaving behind her family who adored her but reuniting with her beloved husband, children, parents, and siblings. 

 

Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport. The Mass will be livestreamed by visiting Anne’s obituary at www.hmdfuneralhome.com Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation will be Tuesday at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home from 4 until 6 p.m. with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. Additional visitation Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until Mass begins at the Cathedral.  Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Cathedral.

 

Anne Juanita Herrera was born on May 15, 1926 in Davenport, a daughter of Primetivo and Basilisa (Torres) Herrera.  She grew up in Cook’s Point and attended St. Alphonsus Grade School.  She was united in marriage to Pedro “Pete” Ramirez on June 30, 1947 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Davenport. He preceded her in death on July 12, 1996 following 49 years of marriage.

 

Anne retired after 20 years of service at Bendix/Litton Life Support/Northrop Grumman.   She also taught cooking classes for children and families demonstrating ways to make economical meals through the Iowa Extension Office.  

 

Anne was deeply devoted to her family; she had a unique ability to love everyone regardless of if you were related or not.  She was a kind and generous soul and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. 

 

Anne was a fantastic cook and enjoyed music and shopping.

 

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Valerie (Scot) Nelson, Davenport;   grandchildren: Laura Nelson, Davenport, Matthew (Becka) Cossin, Michael Cossin, all of San Diego, Scot Nelson, Jr., Davenport, and Becca Ramirez, Milan; great-grandchildren: Maggie, Catie, Connor Kelly, all of Orchard Park, New York, and many nieces and nephews as well as her beloved canine companion McKenzie Luna. 

 

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her children: Marty Ramirez and Christine Cossin, her parents, and siblings: Aurora Hernandez, Marcelino Herrera, Angela Arguello, and John Herrera. May they rest peace.
