Ann Hutchinson

Ann Hutchinson, 74, former Mayor of Bettendorf, died Saturday, May 27, 2023 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Funeral services to celebrate her life will be 10:30a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 121 W. 12^th Street, Davenport, Iowa with inurnment to follow.  The service will be livestreamed by clicking the following link:  HMD FACEBOOKHalligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport has been entrusted with arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.

Ann was born on September 3, 1948 in Davenport, a daughter of Sloan and M. Iona (Brown) Hutchinson. She graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1966 and Augustana College in 1973 with a degree in psychology.

Ann was the founder and owner of FirstCity Mortgage Corp., and before that was vice-president of real estate lending at Northwest Bank. Following her 16 years as Mayor, she served as Regional director of the Eastern Iowa Small Business Development Center.

“Mayor Ann” was a staple in the community of Bettendorf, serving as Mayor from 1988 until 2003.  She is credited with planning and accomplishing a wide range of major projects, including the Learning Campus, made up of the Family Museum and Library, re-vitalizing downtown Bettendorf, bringing riverboat gambling to the city, and even some of the preliminary planning for the new I-74 Bridge.  The plaza in front of City Hall was named for her in 2019.

She served as President of the Iowa League of Cities, on the board of directors of Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois; co-chaired the Riverssance Arts Festival; and was past treasurer of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.

Ann is survived by her nieces: Kathryn Igneri and Meagan Hutchinson, both of Florida; as well as a great niece & nephew, Kailee and Keegan.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother and sister-in-law, Sloan, Jr. and Linda Hutchinson.
