Amelia Frances Fehringer was born November 8, 1933, in Peetz, CO, a daughter of Bernard and Anna (Elenz) Fehringer. She was united in marriage to Joseph A. Benisch on February 11, 1961. He preceded her in death on July 18, 2019. Following her graduation from Peetz High School in 1951 she worked as a postal clerk until 1955 when she moved to Sterling, CO, and began working at the Community Savings Bank. She worked there until 1970 when the family moved to Davenport. She then worked for the Davenport School System from 1974 until her retirement in 1995. In addition to working, Amelia was a dedicated volunteer at church, the schools, and in the community.
She loved to bowl, knit, quilt, sew, travel, and bake, making everything from scratch. Her homemade jams, apple butter, apple sauce, cinnamon rolls and breads were beyond amazing and appreciated by all who she so generously shared them with. She also loved spending time gardening, and helping/supervising the numerous construction projects at the homes of her children. Most of all, Amelia loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her door was always open for visitors and guests. Amelia belonged to the St. Alphonsus Altar and Rosary Society, Bi-State Travelers Motorcycle Club, and the Millwrights Union Retirement Club.
