Alice Hanchett

A gathering to celebrate the life of Alice C. Hanchett, 80, of Davenport, will be held from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. Monday, February 26, 2018 at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 N. Main Street, downtown Davenport. Keeping with her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Alice passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Genesis East, Davenport surrounded by her family.

Alice C. Wernecke was born on July 20, 1937 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Edward L. and Pauline (Persinger) Wernecke, Sr. She was united in marriage to Ewald Lester Hanchett, Jr. on December 19, 1964 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on May 16, 2004 after almost 40 years of marriage. She retired from the Davenport Community School District.

Alice loved her family and enjoyed playing bingo, which she did sometimes three times a week.

Memorials may be made to the family to establish a memorial at a later date.

Alice is survived by her sons: Ronald Hanchett and Richard Hanchett, both of Davenport; grandchildren, Richard Hanchett, Ronald Hanchett, Arieanna Hanchett, Reece (Gabby) Hanchett, Lexus Hanchett, and Teniyah Hanchett; seven great-grandchildren; siblings: Mary (Ralph) Rizza, Pittsburgh, Dorothy Crossen, Pittsburgh, William ‘Bill” Wernecke, Florida, Paul “Buzzy” Wernecke, Florida, Shirley (James) Price, Pittsburgh, Elizabeth (John) Downs, Florida, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Edward Wernecke, Jr., George Wernecke, Carl Wernecke, Robert “Bobby” Wernecke, James “Jimmy” Wernecke, and Julia “Judy” Rolewski. May they rest in peace.
