Samuel Monroe, Jr., 76, of Davenport, passed away December 29, 2020 at The Ivy. The rite of cremation has been accorded. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Samuel was born on February 11, 1944 in Philadelphia, Mississippi, to Loretha Loper Monroe and Samuel Monroe. He is a twin and has 15 other siblings.
In his younger days he attended George Washington Carbon High School in Mississippi. He was a handy man and had worked numerous jobs including a ship yard. He later moved to Davenport in 1978 and worked many jobs including working on cars. Sam loved watching his sports, especially football, basketball and boxing. He also enjoyed hanging out with his long-time friend Kenry and his little buddy Kayden (5) who was his favorite person. He is a father to 16 children with April Valtine being his last.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Pamela Valtine; daughter, April Valtine and 15 other children; siblings Lomia Monroe, Mary Nichols, Isabel Miller, Retha Mae Miller, John Monroe, Delanie Monroe, Vivian Monroe; and a host of extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brothers, Joseph Monroe and Dwight Monroe, and sisters Lorene Monroe and Betty Jean Monroe.
