Funeral Services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Anna Payne, 87, a resident of Davenport, will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 13, 2021 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 12th at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Pandemic protocols must be maintained. Memorials may be made to Genesis East Birthing Unit Training Department or the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. Mary passed away Sunday, May 9, 2021 at her home.
Mary Anna Mecum was born February 13, 1934, in Glendale, California, a daughter of William and Mabel (Taylor) Mecum. She married Quincy Payne February 17, 1950 in Milan, Illinois. They celebrated nearly 67 years of marriage prior to his preceding her in death February 1, 2017.
Mary worked in the Birthing Unit at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and later St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, CASI, the QC Antique Car Club, Knights of Columbus and the Rosary Society. She enjoyed playing games on her iPad, solitaire, and word searches. Mary cherished her time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Those left to honor Mary’s memory include her fourteen children: Matthew (Marsha) Payne, Rock Island; Theresa (Thomas) De Winter, Coal Valley; Mary (Merrill) Allen, Reynolds, Illinois; Mark (Karen) Payne, Davenport; Kathleen (Gary Anderson) Olson, Milan; Thomas (Patty Dahl) Payne, Davenport; John (Sue) Payne, Moline; Dorothy (Mitch) Bergeson, Bettendorf; Timothy (Shelley) Payne, Altoona, Iowa; Carol (John) Johnson, LeClaire; Judy (Tom) Tandeski, Davenport; Lisa (Mick) Rasso, Davenport; Rita (Jeff) Sproul, Kankakee, Illinois; and Kimberly Green, Davenport; 34 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Jean Youngman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Quincy; six brothers and one sister.
