Carolyn Haynes

Funeral Services for Carolyn M. Haynes, 78, a resident of Montpelier, IA, will be 12:00 Noon Monday, December 27, 2021, at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, downtown Davenport. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Buffalo. The family will greet friends Monday at the funeral home from 10am until the time of the service. The family requests that masks be worn by all attendees.  Memorials may be made to the family for the benefit of their grandchildren’s education expenses. Carolyn passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at Unity Point Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island, surrounded by her family.

Carolyn Marie Countryman was born March 30, 1943 in Nevada, Missouri, a daughter of Clarence William and Maxine Marie (Lancaster) Countryman. She grew up in Maquoketa, Iowa attended public school and graduated from Maquoketa High School.  On October 27, 1962 she married Louis Townsend Rechtfertig.  They later divorced.  Carolyn married Roger D. Haynes June 12, 1999. They celebrated 22 years of marriage. Roger preceded her in death December 16, 2021.

As a young woman Carolyn worked as a CNA in Maquoketa.  She enjoyed hunting, fishing, and archery.  She, her father and her sister belonged to an Archery Club in Maquoketa and were at one point contacted by WOC TV, the area television studio at that time, who requested their participation in a televised archery contest which she and her father accepted.

Carolyn lived the majority of her early and middle adult years in Muscatine, Iowa where she was a homemaker while her children were young.  She then worked for Farm Bureau Insurance, Stanley Consultants and as an optometrist assistant for Vision Center, P.C., Value Optical and Walmart Vision Center.

Throughout her many years of marriage with her husband Roger. They enjoyed many travels together visiting family and friends, and seeing places she never had never been before.

Carolyn enjoyed arts and crafts, painting, sewing, quilting and crocheting. She was a member of Artists in Action of Muscatine, she taught tole painting classes in her home for a time, participated in Great River Days Belle of the Bend Art festival and at one point had her own business called “Homes by Countryman” where people would commission her to sketch portraits of their homes and properties. She had a true talent and love of sewing, quilting and crocheting. Quilting being her greatest passion. She most recently took immense pride in the Quilt of Valor that she made for her husband Roger in honor of his service in Vietnam.

Carolyn loved the Lord all of her life and attended, taught Sunday school and participated in bible studies at many churches in the Muscatine area, ultimately ending up at Open Door Baptist Church in Montpelier.  Those that knew her can affirm the presence of her merciful heart. She was a helper. If anyone was in need, especially her family, she did what she could to be there in whatever capacity she was able. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Those left to honor Carolyn’s memory include children:  Lisa Rechtfertig-Ahlf, Muscatine; Karen (Tracy) Siefken, Wever; and Curt (Kathy) Countryman, Sycamore, Illinois; step-children: Scott (Christy) Haynes, DeWitt; grandchildren:  Danica Haynes, Bailey Thie, Ashley Ahlf, Abigail Ahlf, Jacob (Kari) Countryman, Kelsi (Kevin) Boltz, and Holly Siefken; great-grandchildren:  Tristan, Callie, Bryce and Landyn; and sister Delila Flagel. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Roger.
