|A gathering to celebrate the life of Narong “Pete” Hongpananonde, 60, a resident of Davenport, will be from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 2013 in the chapel at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Keeping with Pete’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Pete died Friday, February 15, 2013 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Narong was born on October 1, 1952 in Bangkok, Thailand, a son of Gasem and Pranee (Geow) Hongpananonde. He came to the United States in 1973, spending time in Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles, CA, before settling in the Quad Cities.
Pete was united in marriage to Benchawan “Bennie” Ruangsomboon on December 23, 1984 in Davenport. He was a patent designer for Norcross Safety Products for 35 years, retiring in 2011.
Pete and Bennie attended the Wat Dhammaram, a Thai Buddhist Temple in Chicago on religious holidays and as often as they could make the trip. He enjoyed working on cars, Rock ‘N Roll music, and attending concerts. Pete was also an avid fan of the Washington Redskins and Iowa Hawkeyes.
Memorials may be made to the family.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Bennie, Davenport; brothers, Jim (Donna) of Davenport, Kim ( A ), Tu (Pournuma), Thuy, all of Colorado and Lin (Thook) Hongpananonde, Thailand; sisters, Porntip and Nui; and many loving nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kong Hongpananonde.
